MANAGER, TELECOM EXPENSE IMPLEMENTATION PROJECTS

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Expense Implementations is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective leadership of the expense implementation team, guiding them to achieve critical project milestones and business objectives. Initially serving in a hands-on, player/coach capacity, the Manager will evolve into a dedicated leadership role, strategically driving the team's growth and performance. The Manager will own the end-to-end accountability for the seamless onboarding of Global Enterprise customers’ inventory and telecom/technology expense management (TEM), and bill pay services. This role collaborates closely with internal Sales and Service Delivery teams, third-party partners, and external service providers to oversee and successfully execute complex implementations involving multi-phase, multi-carrier, and multi-technology environments.

THE ROLE

Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership & Team Management:
    • Manage, mentor, and guide the professional development of the implementation team, effectively transitioning from a hands-on project manager role ("player/coach") to a dedicated leadership position.
    • Foster a culture of excellence by attracting and retaining high-performing talent, encouraging career growth, and building a team driven by engagement and clear purpose.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Actively partner with global customers to develop and execute scalable, customized telecom/technology expense implementation solutions tailored to unique regional and business requirements.
    • Serve as the primary escalation contact, proactively managing and resolving complex implementation issues to maintain high customer satisfaction.
    • Communicate clearly and confidently with customer senior management, delivering concise project updates, addressing conflicts swiftly, and ensuring alignment on expectations.
    • Lead and facilitate structured kick-off and ongoing status meetings, documenting clear agendas and actionable meeting minutes for accountability and follow-through.
  • Process Standardization & Continuous Improvement:
    •  Collaborate with the Senior Director of Service Operations to define, document, and consistently apply implementation processes, ensuring scalability and delivering a consistently positive client experience.
    • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives, introducing process enhancements and operational efficiencies that optimize implementation outcomes.
  • Operational Oversight & Accountability:
    • Oversee and manage multiple concurrent telecom/technology expense management (TEM) implementations, ensuring projects remain on schedule, meet quality standards, and deliver measurable value.
    • Provide transparent and timely project status reporting across internal stakeholders (Sales, Service Delivery, Client Success, and Executive Leadership), escalating significant risks or issues proactively.
    • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of critical customer data (account numbers, cost centers, locations, inventory) within the Command Center platform.
    • Effectively manage the Implementation Team Capacity Tracker to ensure optimal resource planning, workload balance, and accurate forecasting.
  • Technical & Industry Expertise:
    • Successfully onboard customers into Command Center’s Expense and Inventory capabilities, clearly communicating complex processes and demonstrating platform functionalities.
    • Maintain and continuously enhance expertise in the telecom/technology expense management industry, including voice, data, cloud, international services, and emerging technologies.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    •  Prepare and deliver detailed progress reports, accurate requirements documentation, and impactful presentations tailored for project teams, sponsors, executives, and key stakeholders.
    • Translate complex client requirements and file specifications into clear, actionable documentation, enabling seamless technical implementation and accurate system integration.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Proven organizational skills with the capability to anticipate issues, manage multiple concurrent tasks, and deliver projects on schedule.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to confidently engage and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership, analytical thinking, and exceptional customer service orientation, committed to driving operational excellence and client success.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in Telecom/Technology Expense Management (TEM), with a record of achieving cost optimization, vendor accountability, and process efficiencies.
  • Strong proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Asana, Miro, Agile methodologies, Scrum frameworks, and continuous improvement disciplines such as Six Sigma.
  • Experience with international telecom implementations and diverse regional requirements.
  • Experience managing third-party service provider relationships.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field; relevant equivalent experience in Telecom/Technology Expense Management (TEM) may substitute formal education
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing telecom/technology expense and inventory projects
  • Minimum of 4 years of direct management experience

 

Location:

  • Port Washington, NY or East Windsor, NJ or remote
  • Occasional travel required -up to 10%

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience creating technical content aimed at internal and external users of Web-based SAAS application. 
  • Experience with Business Process Mapping Notation or similar frameworks for documenting business processes 
  • IT and or telecommunications experience a plus 
  • Experience producing documentation in an Agile environment. 
  • Experience developing or defining a style guide, which is also listed above under responsibilities. 
  • Extensive experience with documentation tools, including:
    • Microsoft Office suite including Visio 
    • Adobe Technical Communications Suite (Framemaker and Robohelp) 
  • Experience with SharePoint content management using Wiki, Document libraries, and metadata management.

Compensation:

Advantage provides salary & benefits commensurate with experience and achievement. The compensation range for this role is an annual salary of $110,000-130,000.
